The Institute

The US Economy and Transatlantic Relations Institute is an educational and research institution established to address and promote knowledge and better understanding of the US economy, its evolution and impact on the World economic order. In addition to assessing the US economic challenges, the Institute also addresses transatlantic relations and factors impacting relationships between North American and European states.

Our activities are conducted based on principles of mutual understanding, international and national cooperation, and desire to increasing the quality of life in the region and the World. Our educational programs and comprehensive research are focused on better understanding of the economic principles, trends, and policies.  We strive to disseminate well-founded knowledge to students, policymakers, educators, researchers, and the public through thoughtfully crafted publications, lectures, and focused seminars.  We stimulate educated and well-founded independent and logical thinking, and interpretation of economic developments in Transatlantic relations.

The Institute serves also as a university-based, independent think-tank providing advisory and consulting services to the private and public sectors, international organizations, and the public.

Importance of US economy and Transatlantic relations

The US economy remains a pivotal element of the World economy. The United States economic system has been for many years in a process of restructuring and adjusting to changes in global economic and political situation. The United States is constantly searching for most effective solutions to benefit from the strength of its economy. This involves continued structural changes and application of various development strategies. These changes have been in the recent twenty years closer related to economic programs of the ruling party. Although some experts challenge the US and European economic leadership, these countries still account for a crucial share of the global economy. The combined output of the United States together with EU27 (plus Switzerland, UK, Iceland, and Norway) still accounts for about one-third of the World GDP. It is more than the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) GDP (30% of the World GDP). The US and EU economies combined are larger than economies of China and India in terms of GDP and consumption. The United States and EU (including the UK) account for about 50% of global personal consumption, compared to a combined share of 15% for China and India. Per capita income in the United States amounts to $65,300, compared to $35,000 in EU 27, $42,300 in the UK. It is significantly higher than in China, which amounts to $10,300 or India ($2,100). The United States is still the most innovative economy providing many outstanding innovative ideas for the entire World.

Despite of some conceptual and strategy differences, the United States and European economies remain deeply intertwined. Consumers, manufacturers, agriculture sectors, service providers, and governments on both sides of the Atlantic directly benefit from close cooperative relationships. We believe that even in progressing economic and political integration within the European Union, its member-states (especially these of Central and East Europe), can significantly benefit from growing trade and investment with the United States. This assumption is consistent with the EU and national strategies. Although, recent initiatives for Transatlantic trade and investment agreements have failed, the idea of the US-EU cooperation still deserves support and action.

Interdisciplinary approach

The Institute provides a unique interdisciplinary approach to researching transatlantic relations. It is based on comparative assessments of economic and political trends in the United States and Europe with careful consideration of legal, institutional, cultural, environment, and social environments. This approach is the most effective, and we believe necessary, in the current situation when various concepts and scenarios for future World development are considered. The Institute’s approach extends beyond international activities and relations, and also involves monitoring and assessment of internal changes in the US economy and their global implications.  We believe that thorough understanding of the mechanisms defining the US economic and social growth patterns is a key for creating successful international transatlantic cooperation.

The Institute is dedicated to developing and promoting transatlantic relationships based on cooperative approach of governments, educational and research institutions, and the private sector. We promote international and national activities based on solid knowledge and understanding the transatlantic economics and transformation of national economies in the region by combining advanced research, media outreach and educational programming. We strive to provide an independent and objective opinion and interpretation of transatlantic relationships. The Institute conducts comprehensive monitoring and evaluation of these trends. We strive to disseminate this knowledge through many forms of lectures and seminars, brain-storming sessions, research, and continuing education activities. We also offer individual advisory programs for institutions and entrepreneurs interested in expending knowledge and establishing various forms of cooperation within the United States.

Activities

The World is changing. The global and national economies are preparing for a major restructuring. This creates many significant challenges for US economy.

The willingness and capacity for the US and EU to cooperate have been subjected to factors related to the Covid-19 crisis, and global environmental activism and concerns. Various new, and often contradictory, approaches to economic growth and cooperation have been recently presented on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. To a large extent they reflect the US and European political and social trends, and challenges created by extensive, unmanaged globalization. Wide-spreading discussion of economics of de-globalization provides many new insights for the US economy and its options for expanding transatlantic relationships. The Institute provides objective assessment of these trends.

Because of the above, the Institute has recently re-evaluated its activities, and decided to adjust some of its actions to the current World economic and political changes, and increasing digitalization of education systems and research activities.  Starting from 2022, we offer new forms of education and expanding knowledge on the US economy and transatlantic relations.

  • We provide lectures and presentations at our mother-university, and guest lectures at at other universities and research institutions, internationally.
  • We offer focused and tailored presentations, speeches, and research activities for the private and public sector, and international organizations.
  • The Institute has created and is expanding its international network of researchers and experts who are capable to undertake the most challenging analytical tasks related to the scope of Institute’s activities.
  • We also actively support, as recognized experts, international business and commercial activities related to transatlantic relations.  Our experts have an extensive record of due-diligence and feasibility assessments and strategic planning for US-EU cooperation.

The current World health situation allows the governments to impose various restrictions on face-to face activities. Consequently, most of our lectures and seminars are conducted by electronic means of communication (Web-conferences, Webinars, Website). We also continue working on publications and commentaries on current developments in the US and their impact on transatlantic relationships. Since some movement and meeting restrictions have been eased, we are gradually capable to return to personal meetings and contacts. We encourage you to contact the Institute to familiarise yourself with our academic, research and advisory capabilities in more detail.
